Staff headshots for New Jersey state officials
We recently traveled to the Statehouse in Trenton to photograph headshots of NJ State Senators.
Since I photograph high-profile executives often, I know the key to a successful headshot photoshoot is to be prepared with an efficient system that makes the photoshoot quick and effective.
The location of the photoshoot was perfect, a large room directly across the hall from the Senate Chambers. Each Senator had to walk right past our room to cast votes so it was convenient for them to stop in.
Usually, we have people select their favorite photo on site, but in this case, each Senator was going to receive a dozen or so retouched photos later. Just to be safe we tethered to a laptop and Debbie kept an eye on the photos.
Since the subjects are elected officials we photographed the headshots with and without flags.
The following day we send our clients a gallery with a dozen or so retouched headshots of each Senator. I can’t wait to see the photos start appearing in the media.

I am lucky to photograph portraits and headshots for many of New Jersey’s leading healthcare providers.
For this group of surgeons, I photographed portraits, candid photos, headshots, and simulated surgery photos. The wide variety of photos needed was challenging but fun. We photographed some photos lit only by the light of an X-ray lightbox, while for some of the operating room photos, a large and complex lighting setup was required.
All the hard work was worthwhile since the photos look great on their website.
A New Jersey executive wanted to create an image library of headshots and portraits for his company website.
We decided to produce corporate headshots against both white and gray backgrounds. Then we photographed some environmental portraits using the office as the background. We set up situations with the executives talking with colleagues in his office, recording a podcast, and speaking to a group of people.
A few times a year I photograph corporate headshots for a financial services firm. I photograph new employees and people who want to refresh their previous headshot.
The company asks me to shoot a wide vertical portrait that can be cropped to a tight headshot if necessary. Their office is very bright and modern so it makes a great background. We usually shoot portraits of each person in two or three locations around the office then each person picks their favorite for the company website.
A central New Jersey-based construction company asked us to come to their office for new headshots, portraits, and group photos.
Since the staff is usually out at construction sites, we created an online scheduling calendar so each person could pick a convenient time for their headshots.
We photographed each person against a white background for their corporate headshot, a wider portrait with the out-of-focus office as the background, and a variety of group photos with their colleagues.
A New Jersey fitness center contacted us about new business headshots and marketing photos.
For the headshots, they wanted to use the out-of-focus gym as the background. We also photographed group photos of their trainers and photos of the trainers working with members.
Not only was it a very successful photo shoot, but we finished quickly, so we didn’t interfere with the customers using the gym.
We photograph headshots for a New Jersey law firm on-site at their office a few times a year. We photograph each new associate and also anyone who wants to refresh their photo.
We provide an online calendar so each person can pick a convenient time for their headshot. Each person receives a reminder 24 hours before their headshot session.
To match the firm’s website design, we shoot a wide horizontal frame with a white background.
We bring a laptop onsite so each person can pick their favorite headshot onsite. The headshots receive custom retouching so everyone looks their best.
I often photograph doctors who are redesigning their websites. We usually start with headshots of each doctor and other healthcare practitioners.
We then photograph the doctors in exam rooms interacting with patients, and also photos of them collaborating with each other around the office.
This week we photographed 60 corporate headshots for a New Jersey business at their headquarters building. The headshots were taken during the breaks between conference sessions. We also photographed headshots during the lunch break.
We provided an online schedule so each person could select a convenient time slot.
Last week we created new corporate headshots for a business at their facility in Union County, New Jersey.
The company was trying to match the background of their existing corporate headshots so we were able to create a new dark gray background digitally.
We were recently hired to photograph headshots of the CEO of a New Jersey company.
We photographed his headshot against a portable grey background at his home and swapped out the background for white and a variety of office locations from our photo library.
We recently created business headshots for a large organization in New Brunswick, NJ. We provided them with an online scheduling calendar so everyone could sign up for a convenient time slot.
Each person picked their favorite photo on-site and all the photos received custom retouching. Everyone then received their photo via a private gallery. The day went very smoothly and everyone was very happy.

We photographed the CEO with his office as the background and also against a grey background. After those headshots, the main mission was to capture candid photos of colleagues collaborating.
