The Star-Ledger received 7 nominations in the New York Emmy Awards.

I received two of those Emmy nominations.

“Chain of Life” was nominated in the documentary category. The video follows the patients and staff during the world’s largest kidney donation exchange.
“The Rise and Fall of Rocky Lockridge” looks at the former world champion boxer who is now homeless and living on the streets of Camden.

When I’m shooting a portrait for the Star-Ledger I try to describe to the subject exactly the look I’m trying to achieve.
Making them a partner in the shoot helps tremendously.

Communication is even more important when somebody has hired me to shoot their portrait. Often they have specific ideas about their portrait.
Jim wanted new photos for his corporate website. Communication was very important for this photo shoot since Jim wanted his photos to have a cutting edge, moody feel.
Jim sent me links to photos that he liked so I had a good idea of what he hoped to achieve.

We both are very happy with the results.

All the chefs involved in the new “Top Chefs” issue of Inside Jersey magazine are no exception.
Ariane Duarte is the chef/owner of CulinAriane in Montclair. Her excellent food keeps the restaurant packed and a recent appearance on Bravo’s “Top Chef” doesn’t hurt either.

Former New Jersey governors Tom Kean and Brendan Byrne write a weekly political column for the Star-Ledger. A recent newspaper redesign required new portraits for all the paper’s columnists.
The two governors were the last to be photographed so the lighting and posing had to match all the previous photos.

Kean and Byrne are always a joy to work with and today was no exception.

There are so many ways to judge: outstanding service and staff, sheer beauty, best food, best photo backgrounds, etc…

Some of my favorites are the Grand Summit Hotel, the Lambertville Inn, The Lobster Shanty in Point Pleasant, The Mill at Spring Lake Heights, the Park Avenue Club in Florham Park. Each has something great to offer.

In 2010 I’m looking forward to weddings at the Hyatt Regency in Jersey City, the Mansion at Bretton Woods, the Woodcliff Manor, the Stone House and many others.

Ok, enough stalling. The envelope, please!

My favorite wedding venue for 2009 was the Mallard Island Yacht Club near Long Beach Island. It’s a truly stunning venue right on Barnegat Bay. The unique groom shack, the boathouse chapel and the great photo backgrounds put it into first place.

And since it’s about 20 degrees outside right now it’s nice to think about photographing a beach wedding.

As you can see from the expression on Eli Manning’s face the team was not happy with their performance.

It was a lot more fun photographing the Giants ticker tape parade following their amazing Super Bowl victory two years ago!
