Rutgers’ Eric LeGrand portraits

I had the opportunity to spend some time photographing Eric LeGrand, the paralyzed Rutgers football player.
He has made remarkable progress since his injury during a game last October. He now lives at his aunt’s gorgeous home in New Egypt as he continues his rehabilitation.

Giants & Jets locker room portraits

As the NFL regular season comes to a close this weekend here is a look at a series of locker room portraits.

The locker room is much too crowded to set up a light stand so I usually rely on the lights from nearby tv cameras. Usually the tv cameras shoot straight on so I try to shoot from the side giving me nice side lighting on the player’s face. Luckily the Jets locker room has a large window that floods the room with nice light.

As I look at the photos I realize that none of the players look very happy, I guess that sums up the season pretty well.

New Jersey musician portrait

Jeffrey Ammeen is passionate about his music and fashion.
In the 1980′s a Jeffrey was a serious musician, today he’s creative director for Haspel, the American menswear label that pioneered the seersucker suit.

This portrait was taken in his home rehearsal studio in western New Jersey.
One light off to the side added a bit of drama to the photo.

Queen Latifah portrait

I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the new issue of Inside Jersey magazine. A photograph of Queen Latifah that I took last year was featured in an article about the New Jersey native.

Usually celebrity portraits require lots of advance setup and coordination with publicity agents.
This photograph was the result of a wonderful day riding on a luxury bus with Queen Latifah as she educated people about steps they can take to stop a home foreclosure.

Being the only photographer on the bus allowed for some nice candid moments. It’s great to see the photo published again.

Jerseylicious fashion photo shoot

The Gatsby Salon in Green Brook was a crowded place. The whole cast of the Style Network’s reality tv show Jerseylicious, hair and makeup stylists, and a large crew from the Star-Ledger’s Inside Jersey magazine.
It was a long day but the cast was fun to work with and results were great.
Also below is a video of cast member Alexa Prisco shopping for the fashion shoot.

Amanda & Brendan, Liberty State Park engagement photos

Amanda, Brendan and I kept our eye on the weather forecast all week. Luckily the thunderstorms stayed away and it was a great evening for our engagement shoot.

Medal of Honor portrait

It’s not every day that you get to meet a true hero.
Yesterday I photographed Nicholas O’Resko who received the Medal of Honor, our nation’s highest honor, from President Truman for his brave actions in World War Two.
His actions on January 23, 1945 sound like a Hollywood movie, except the bullets and the danger were real.

Missionary portrait

Adam LiVecchi was on a missionary trip to Haiti when the massive earthquake rocked the country.
The room where he was sleeping was destroyed but he was uninjured.
Through the kindness of a stranger he managed to get on a plane back to the United States.

Candid portraits of Governor Christie

One of the cool aspects of being a photojournalist for a major publication is that sometimes the newsmakers come to you.
Recently Governor Christie visited the Star-Ledger offices in Newark to discuss the details of his controversial budget.

It was a good opportunity to shoot some tight, candid portraits of the Governor.
