New Jersey musician portrait

I had the opportunity to photograph musician Billy Hector before a recent performance.

I decided to light the portrait with one small video light. The narrow beam gives off a harsh light which seemed to work well for Billy’s portrait.

Since the portrait was for the Star Ledger’s “I am New Jersey” series it ran very large in the newspaper.

Be sure to see Hector if he is ever playing near you, he really makes that 30 year old guitar come alive.
