Nature among the oil tanks

The area between New Jersey and Staten Island is known more for oil tanks and container ships than for herons.

During the past decades the small islands of the Arthur Kill have become one of the largest heron rookeries in the Northeast.

But recently most of the herons have left the islands and experts are unsure of the reasons.
